Not ranked: Kenedy County, Loving County — the Census Bureau did not publish a median tax bill for these counties in the 2020-2024 release.

Method

  • Median tax bill is Census variable B25103_001E: median real estate taxes paid by owner-occupied homes, with or without a mortgage, as reported by the household.
  • Median home value is B25077_001E, the owner’s estimate of what the home would sell for. It is not a sale price.
  • Bill as % of value = B25103 ÷ B25077. It is a ratio of two medians, not a statutory or effective tax rate, and it is blank where either median is unpublished or the tax bill is top-coded.
  • The Census Bureau top-codes the tax median at $10,000; those counties are shown as $10,000+ and share the top rank.
  • ACS figures are survey estimates with margins of error, which this page does not print. In small counties the margin can exceed the gap between neighbouring ranks, so treat close ranks as ties.
  • Exemptions such as a homestead exemption lower many owners’ bills and are already reflected in what households report; this page does not model them.
