NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) is a non-profit founded in 2002 that runs voluntary certification and credentialing programs for renewable-energy practitioners, including the PV Installation Professional (PVIP) board certification. It is an industry credential, not a license: the license a company contracts under is issued by the state — in Florida, a certified solar contractor or electrical contractor license, both searchable on DBPR (see how to check a Florida solar installer's license). NABCEP publishes public directories of board-certified professionals and accredited companies.
